Neighbors, Desperate For Information On Secoriea Turner’s Killers, Go Door-To-Door

first_img ‘It’s Fractured’: Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan On Healing Republican Party Former, two-term Atlanta City Councilman Derrick Boazman and about 60 others covered ground across the southwest Atlanta neighborhood where 8-year-old Secoriea Turner lived and died. This week the group passed out flyers with a $50,000 reward for information that leads to the arrests and convictions of Turner’s killers. The Turner family has offered to pay $5,000 of that reward money.“Because we have this strained relationship with the police, that many people, even if they saw something, they wouldn’t want to talk to the police,” Boazman told “Morning Edition” host Lisa Rayam.“This effort not only included the reward money, but it also said to the community, if you have any information and would like to talk to a lawyer, you can call the number on the flyer.”Yesterday 19-year-old Julian Conley surrendered to the Atlanta Police Department. APD put out an alert that Conley was wanted as a person of interest in Turner’s murder. Police charged Conley with murder and aggravated assault Wednesday.Conley’s attorney Jackie Patterson said the teen maintains his innocence, and that while he was there at the scene of the Wendy’s where Turner was killed, he only witnessed the shooting.“Ninety-nine percent of the people who came to that Wendy’s were there for righteous reasons,” Boazman said.“But there was another percent of the element who were there to assert power.”In the days leading up to Turner’s shooting death, Atlanta Keisha Mayor Lance Bottoms and other city leaders were informed of an armed group patrolling and setting up illegal roadblocks near the University Avenue Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks was killed by former APD officer Garrett Rolfe.Rolfe was released from the Gwinnett County jail on a $500,000 bond earlier this month.Lily Oppenheimer contributed to this report.  Share Related Stories For Whom The Bell Rings 4:13 | Play story Add to My ListIn My List Legal Advocate Discusses Medical Abuse At Shut Down Georgia ICE Facility last_img read more
