Roeland Park City Councilor Jennifer Gunby also combined bacon and chocolate. Toni Gates and Tom Ransom provided the entertainment.Oh, the things you can make with bacon if you let your imagination run wild. In Roeland Park Saturday, you could find bacon soda, chocolate wrapped bacon, bacon flavored chocolate chip cookies, and much more – 14 recipes in all made with bacon. That was the fare at the Bacon, Blues and Brews fest at the community center. The beer was, well beer, (Roasterie coffee also for the brews) and the blues filling the room was Toni Gates singing with Tom Ransom on guitar. The more than 100 people who attended put the fundraising for the walking trail through R Park over the top. Organizer Gretchen Davis said work on the trail should begin this fall in the park with the matching funds from the Sunflower Foundation grant. Trees along the trail and signs will be installed next spring. The next project for the fundraising group, Davis said, is getting money for other park amenities, such as picnic tables, benches along the trail, trash receptacles and bike racks. Anyone wanting to contribute to the project can make a tax-deductible contribution to the Roeland Park Community Foundation at city hall with “R Park Amenities” in the memo line.Gary Brokema was offering the unlikely combination of chocolate chip cookies with bacon.
